Areas of research

Molecular biophysics, biochemistry and pharmacology.

  • The study of ionizing radiation influence on the subcellular structures – DNA, RNA and their complexes with pharmacological agents which have radioprotective and antioxidant action using complementary instrumental techniques (mass spectrometry – FAB, PDMS, MALDI, AMS, X-ray diffraction, electron microscopy, nuclear microprobe) with the classical methods of biochemistry. Combination of quantum-chemical calculations and mass spectrometry techniques to develop research strategies of radioprotective capacities of small biological molecules at the level of molecular test systems.
  • The study of processes of epoxy substances binding with blood serum proteins and ability to modify them with drugs.
  • Establishing of the main parameters of toxicometry of epoxy substances and their metabolites.
  • The study of the mechanisms of liver damage by carbon tetrachloride, tetracycline antibiotics, epichlorhydrine, and epoxy resins.
  • The investigation of xenobiotics hepatotoxicity dependence from circadian and circannual biological rhythms.
  • Pathogenically validated usage of drugs, which regulate metabolic processes, antioxidants, inductors of enzymes, inhibitors of monooxygenase system, phosphatidylcholine liposome, high-molecular substances, enterosorbents, and combined pharmacotherapy in toxic hepatopathy.
  • Synthesis and research of derivatives of N-oxypyridine, bi- and tetrahydrothiophendioxide and their antioxidant activity.
  • The raw of synthetic polymers with tertiary amino-groups were synthesized on the basis of copolymer N-vinylpyrolidon-maleic anhydride and their detoxificative properties concerning epoxy substances were studied.
  • The investigation of the method of mass spectrometry with ionization fission fragments of CA-252 (TOF-PDMS) for the study of intermolecular interactions of some anticancer drugs with structural components of nucleic acids and proteins;
  • The research of the method for mass spectrometric determination of some neuropeptides of pituitary of rats, papaverine in blood, some steroids in food.
  • The investigation of the chemical composition of drugs vitadeps, vitation, carotene, which are made on the basis of biomass of Blakislea trispora fungus.
  • The influence of vitaton and vitadeps on the protein-synthesis processes and dynamics of accumulation of carotene, vitamin A, ascorbic acid in the internal organs of animals was studied.
  • The study of the influence of physical (ionizing radiation) and chemical (anticancer drugs) factors on the regulatory system of transforming growth factor β in cancer cells.

Biomolecular Engineering.

  • Creation of a composite matrix (scaffolds) for immobilization of living cells and formation of a model of cell groups (particularly those that simulate cancer tumors) to study the complex effects of ionizing radiation in an experimental device. The development of biologically compatible matrix which can be used for fixation of target cells in the workspace during microbeam experiment with horizontal geometry. The creation and the conduction of a test on the basis of obtained scaffolds of so-called multicellular caps which are used for creation of “operating models” of solid cancer tumors, which on the one hand as accurately as possible reflect the structure and composition of the tumor in the body, on the other hand – allow to study the effect of various external factors on tumors in vitro. Use of model tumors in experiments with accelerated ions microbeam is important for creating molecular biophysical basis in the development of technology of hadron cancer therapy in Ukraine.
